Oprah App

Oprah went mobile today with the launch of a range of branded mobile applications for the iPhone, Blackberry, Google Android, and Palm Pre.

Oprah Mobile offers users the chance to access and interact with content from the website of the popular show, Oprah.com.

Featurs include video clips and previews of “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. Users can also take polls on issues, listen to audio clips, read articles and view picture galleries from Oprah.com, Oprah Magazine and Oprah Radio and even keep up to date with Oprah’s tweets.

Oprah took to Twitter last year and quickly gained over one million followers. Now she’s tested the waters, it’s clear the American talk show host means business as the app comes across all the major platforms.

These apps aren’t free however, prices range from $2-$3.

Download the app here.

iPhone-4.0-intelligent-communications

Hey! What’s happening with the iPhone’s new 4.0 operating system, which is getting a first airing on the 8th of April? Let’s fire our speculation cannon at the sky and see what falls!

The Guardian has a great post up, cherrypicking the best features touted round the web including:

- support for the rumoured second front camera, which means mobile iChat. Yay!

- a global message inbox and contact ’speed dial’ for valued contacts.

- slightly more fanciful, but could a Spotify-killing iTunes streaming service be on the way? We think…no. Nice thought though.

Check out the rest here…or you could wait until the 8th and indulge in some FACTS, but where would be the fun in that?

Not prepared to wait until the 8th to join the iPhone gang? How about checking out the latest iPhone deals, including the newly added Vodafone iPhone deals. Happy with your current mobile and just looking for a new tariff? Then peruse Omio’s selection of SIM only deals.

Last night saw a glittering awards bash in Central London, where Mobile Choice magazine picked the best handsets, tariffs, services and networks in the phone business. Some were surprises, many were deserving, all are great.

Without further ado, here are the big winners of the Mobile Choice Awards:

Most Stylish Phone

bl40official

LG New Chocolate BL40None can argue that the striking stylings of this fashion phone were anything less than catwalk quality. A marriage of unorthodox looks with a 21:9 display, and a classic minimalist black finish had the Chocolate head and shoulders above the rest.

HTC Touch Diamond2

Apple iPhone 3GS

Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte

Best Social Networking Handset

3’s ‘little handset that could’ takes down the bevy of smart phone beauties by being a pocket dynamo in the social stakes. Liaising happily with Windows Live and Skype, the coup de grace is the merged contact list formed by hooking up with Facebook. Profiles, status and images all sync perfectly, leaving you with a perfect phone for popular folks that doesn’t dent the bank, let alone break it.

Runners-up:

HTC Hero

Nokia N97

LG GW520

BlackBerry Curve 8520

Phone Of The Year

HTC Hero

The HTC Hero ticks all of the boxes as far as a strong handset is concerned. Embracing the new Android operating system, HTC’s Sense UI manages to offer a fun, intuitive, slick and (above all else) practical interface, without choosing to ape Apple’s groundbreaking device.

The form factor might be a little divisive in terms of people’s tastes, but each design choice is clear, justifiable and makes for a striking phone to look at.

A deserving winner.

After two years of exclusivity on the O2 network, the iPhone has finally appeared on both Orange and Vodafone, with the rival providers offering both the 3G and new 3GS models to their millions of subscribers.

Neither has been candid regarding release dates, but word has it that Orange will make the device available this side of Christmas, whilst Vodafone are to sell the iPhone from early 2010.

More importantly, the pricing for the iPhone on Orange has not been made public as yet, sparking talk of an imminent price war between themselves and the present sole retailer, O2.

The premium that has been placed on the device has kept the iPhone out of the reaches of many, but the resultant competition on price is sure to drive costs down and benefit the consumer in the long run.

O2 has seen this day coming and has managed to benefit hugely from the iPhone’s exclusivity, with over 1million customers signed up on iPhone 3G deals and 3GS contracts alone over the two years.

However, with alternatives like the Palm Pre already secured in their armoury of O2-only devices, they are certainly ready for a future where the playing field between networks is more level…

Time will tell whether the iPhone is a make-or-break handset for Orange, and if Vodafone’s late arrival will see them miss the boat. What is undeniable is that the iPhone is still at the height of the public conscious, and the freedom to choose a variety of networks will only see Apple sell more of the heavily-hyped handset.
