The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is unique. Cheaper and prettier than the immensely popular 5800 XpressMusic, the 5530 retains the Symbian S60 5th edition operating system, packed into a 2G device with a wide array of high-end festures. It may not have 3G, but it more than makes up for that with 4GB of (microSD supplied) storage, Wi-Fi and a 3.15 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera.
With a 2.9-inch touchscreen, the 5530 retains the active homescreen chock-full of social networking connectivity with contacts and a bevy of frequently used services just one touch away. The GSM/EDGE support will be more than sufficient to support them, 2G web browsing is a small concession given the clean design and attractive looks.
Available in a variety of colours and at a bargain SIM-free price of €199, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic will begin shipping in Q3 2009.
The Nokia E72 capitalises on the desire for the all-in-one messaging device, improving on the quality QWERTY keyboard of the original E71 whilst combining the stylings of earlier E-series entries.
Improving upon the E71 with faster web browsing, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera (as opposed to 3.1), a 3.5mm headphone jack and improved compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007, the Nokia E72 aims to address all and any shortcomings levelled at the precursor.
With a new optical navi key for easier scrolling through menus and integrated GPS, the Nokia E72 looks to be an important advancement in the smartphone biz for the Finnish manufacturer, with a Q3 release and €350 price tag announced.

The sleek and sexy successor to the Nokia 6300 seems set to be a great success, as long as people are fans of glossy handsets with a classic design. Which they are.
The Nokia 6700 will be released in UK SIM-free on Friday June 19th, at a price of £269.
It will be an exclusive to the Nokia website and the flagship Regent Street store in London for a week, moving to the usual pay monthly/pre-pay offers on networks from June 26th.
The Nokia 6700 may look simplistic, but is equipped with a wealth of features. It has an 5-megapixel camera, GPS navigation via Nokia Maps and 3G as well as Bluetooth connectivity.
The Nokia 6600 Slide was a very popular device in Q3 of 2008, enough that Nokia has seen fit to return to it for a revamp.
Undergoing a few nips and tucks, the Nokia 6600i Slide becomes an even more attractive prospect. The basic features of a 2.2″ TFT screen, FM radio and bundled 1GB memory card remain, but they are now complimented by a few cosmetic enhancements.
The body remains metallic but has gone from glossy to a very luxurious brushed matte look, and the changes are more than skin deep as the camera has been beefed up from a 3.2 to 5 megapixel lens, making the device the world’s smallest 5MP slider. The flash is still is dual-LED, and the connecitivity options remain robust with USB and Bluetooth 2.0.
The Nokia 6600i Slide is due for a Q3 2009 release, at a SIM-free cost of €200.
The price of the Nokia N97 in the UK has recently gone public, now that pre-orders are being taken on Nokia’s official site.
Retailing for £499 SIM-free, it is now possible to order either the black Nokia N97 and white Nokia N97, offering identical specs. Let’s hope Apple follows suit with this colour blindness when selling the third iPhone…
Anyone looking to be an early adopter will find their N97 to be released from here first. In the past, online orders are the first to be honoured, pipped the flagship Nokia Store in Central London by a couple of days. The networks then get their hands on them, anything from a week to a few months later, all dependent on how their proprietary services (Vodafone Live!, Orange World etc.) dovetail with the existing hardware and software.
The good thing for those who wait is a heavily subsided price, but if you cannot wait to see whether the N97 has what it takes to topple the iPhone, get your name (and money) on the list…
The 2730 Classic is a classic example Nokia’s heartland, a simple yet fully specced handset at a very competitive price.
Available from Q3 2009 at a price of €80, the Nokia 2730 Classic is a candybar handset which punches above its weight boasting a 2 megapixel camera, dual band 3G and Nokia maps preinstalled. Memory comes in the form of an included 1GB memory card (with support for up to 2GB), media is an FM radio and a 3.5mm audio jack allows for the possibility of comfortable headphones!
The premise for Nokia in the emerging markets is said to be offering easy web and e-mail access for those without easy access to computers. With a no-nonsense design, 2″ QVGA screen, 3G connectivity and an amazing price point, the Nokia 2730 Classic seems a prime candidate to achieve that goal.
Great to see that Nokia is still raising the bar for what might be considered “entry level” handsets, offering phones replete the features far beyond competitors in the same price bracket.
The Nokia 7020 is a stylish device with a flip form factor, and more than a little high-end functionality. 2 screens on the phone mean that text alerts etc. appear on the front of the device, whilst the main event is the 2.2″ QVGA screen inside.
Youngsters will also be happy to know that all of their social networking sites are capably cared for on the 7020, and the ‘tap-to-show’ for the external screen is a cool touch.
With a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, a microSD card slot and accelerometer the Nokia 7020 seems like a decent mid-range device…until the €90 price tag confirms that it’ll be finding an equally good home in the cost-conscious emerging markets.
With fetching looks and 4 potentially popular colours including hot pink, silver and graphite, the Nokia 7020 seems set to impress the socially savvy user in Q4 2009.
Take a good look at it in person with the below video…
